German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita)

Used as an ingredient in: Get Out of Grumpytown Tea

Antispasmodic. Use internally for stomach cramps and migraines, or externally in a poultice to relieve tight muscles and jaw pain.

Anti-catarrhal. Assists in the elimination of excess mucus in the sinuses. Good for head colds, allergies, and hay fever.

Anti-inflammatory. Inhaled steam can reduce inflammation in mucous membranes in sinuses and lungs. Good for digestive and respiratory systems. Can be used externally with the same anti-inflammatory benefit on skin for urticaria (hives) and other inflammatory skin issues.

Antimicrobial/Antibacterial. Helps body destroy and resist pathogenic microorganisms.

Bitter. Aids in digestion. Great taken before meals to get digestive juices flowing and assist with poor appetite.  Use for colic, diarrhea, dyspepsia.

Carminative. Helps relieve discomfort from trapped gas in the intestines.

Nervine. Great for stressed or nervous children, insomnia, anxiety and depression, vertigo, and motion sickness.

Vulnerary. Can be used externally in the healing of wounds, inflamed skin, hives, or conjunctivitis. It has been used topically in the healing of mouth sores caused by cancer treatment. Use internally for healing gastric ulcers.
